Class Structure:
In level 4 students are given a theme to work from and are guided through the painting process from choosing the canvas and materials, working through concepts, planning the composition, finding reference images, doing preliminary sketches, painting in layers, incorporating mixed media techniques and finally refining and finishing. There will also be smaller skills-focused exercises and instructor led tutorials and demonstrations between projects.
Learning goals:
Planning larger multi-week projects and interpreting themes. Exploring Composition and how to lead the eye of the viewer. Deepening understanding of colour and value, mixing shades, tints, skin tones and neutrals, etc. Understanding how to create depth. Exploring how drawing and painting complement and support each other. Creating atmosphere and mood. Exploring and developing personal painting style. Applying principles and elements of art and design.
Materials:
We may use any of the following in our projects: acrylic paint and mediums, watercolours, markers, pastels, pencils, collage papers, and more.

We recommend that level 4 participants sign up for a full term and attend as regularly as possible since projects take multiple weeks to complete.
All materials and tools are supplied. We have aprons in the studio for protecting participants' clothing, but we recommend not dressing in your best clothes.
